Transforming A Worn Deck With Complete Renovation

The Inspection

For this Washington, D.C. residence, our team evaluated the aging deck and vinyl railing, determining the need for a full structural rebuild to support a new 170 sq ft design. We inspected the rim joist for ledger attachment and soil conditions for new footings, mapping out post and beam placement to ensure a stable foundation for both the pressure-treated decking and Trex steel railing system.

The Process

The project began with removing the old vinyl and wood structure to prepare for a new build. We installed a pressure-treated ledger board with proper flashing, poured concrete footings, and set 6"x6" posts with a double 2"x10" beam to support the frame.

We then installed pressure-treated decking with corrosion-resistant fasteners and built a code-compliant staircase. The project was completed with a Trex Enhance Steel railing system, creating a sleek, durable, and low-maintenance finish.

The Result

The final result is a stunning 170 square foot deck that balances the classic appeal of natural pine with the contemporary, industrial look of black Trex steel railings. This upgrade not only provides a safer and more spacious area for the homeowners in Washington, D.C. but also adds significant aesthetic and property value.
