The Inspection
For this project in Woodbridge, VA, we inspected an 84-square-foot deck that required a targeted restoration. Our assessment revealed that the main supporting beams and rim joists were deteriorating and needed immediate replacement to ensure the safety of the new surface. We planned a surgical removal of the old 2x6 wood boards and the compromised structural elements, allowing us to reinforce the foundation with dual 2x10 pressure-treated beams before upgrading to a premium composite finish.
The Process
The restoration began with the careful demolition of the old deck surface and the removal of the failing beams. We installed two new 2'' x 10'' x 13' pressure-treated wood beams to provide a rock-solid foundation. For the flooring, we installed Trex Select boards in the 'Saddle' color, using a black hidden fastener system for a smooth, hardware-free look. A unique feature of this project was the custom railing: we utilized a Prowood wood railing system integrated with black round aluminum pickets for a modern touch, topped with a Trex Select Saddle cap rail to perfectly match the deck floor.
The Result
The final result is a compact yet highly durable outdoor space that perfectly complements the home. The rich tones of the Trex Select Saddle boards, combined with the hybrid wood and aluminum railing, create a sophisticated aesthetic that requires minimal maintenance. By replacing the structural beams and opting for high-performance composite, this Woodbridge residence now has a safe and beautiful deck built to last.
