The Inspection

For this Arlington, VA project, we inspected the elevated deck and determined a full replacement was needed to meet current codes. We planned a new structure with 6x6 posts and 2x12 beams, ensuring a strong, stable foundation for the composite deck.

The Process

The reconstruction involved framing a 143-square-foot area with premium #2 pressure-treated pine. We installed Trex Select decking in the warm 'Saddle Brown' tone, utilizing a hidden fastener system for a smooth, barefoot-friendly surface. A standout feature of this build is the railing system: we combined Prowood timber frames with sleek black aluminum pickets and topped it with a Trex 'Cap Rail' that mirrors the deck flooring. To enhance both safety and ambiance, we integrated LED riser lights into the new staircase, all wrapped in a clean, white PVC fascia for a high-contrast, professional finish.

The Result

The final result in Arlington is a sophisticated outdoor retreat that perfectly blends the strength of pressure-treated lumber with the elegance of Trex composites. The Saddle Brown finish provides a timeless look, while the aluminum pickets offer a modern touch that doesn’t obstruct the backyard view. With the addition of low-voltage lighting, the deck is now as functional at night as it is during the day.
