The Inspection
Our team started the project by carefully removing 308 square feet of existing 2x6 wood decking boards, along with 71 linear feet of old rim joists and 14 stair boards. Upon clearing the surface, we conducted a thorough inspection of the framework. To ensure maximum safety and a solid foundation for the new composite materials, we determined a structural change order was necessary, which involved removing 18 old joists and installing 25 new 2x8 joists secured with galvanized face-mount hangers.
The Process
Our focus was to deliver a durable, low-maintenance outdoor space built to last. After reinforcing the deck’s framework by securing new joists to the existing ledger, we installed 308 sq ft of Trex Enhance Basic decking in Clam Shell using a hidden clip system for a smooth, screw-free finish. We added grey PVC fascia around the perimeter and stairs, along with a new Trex railing system featuring a white cocktail rail, black pickets, and white posts. The project was completed with 14 new stairs using matching decking and sturdy 4x4 posts for a clean, weather-resistant finish.
The Result
The final result is a beautifully restored, structurally robust deck that completely elevates the home’s exterior. By transitioning from old wood to high-quality Trex composite materials, the homeowners now have a stunning, low-maintenance area perfect for entertaining without the hassle of continuous upkeep.
