The Inspection
This Alexandria home featured an older wooden deck that required a comprehensive update to ensure both safety and aesthetic appeal. Our team began by removing 224 square feet of aging decking boards to fully assess the underlying structure. To guarantee a solid and secure foundation for the new composite material, we determined it was necessary to reinforce the framework, including the joists and railing posts, before proceeding with the new installation.
The Process
We focused on creating a durable, low-maintenance outdoor space by reinforcing the deck’s structure with 12 new joists and 24 hangers for long-term stability. We then installed 224 sq ft of Trex Enhance Natural Saddle composite decking with a hidden clip system for a clean, fastener-free surface. Solid perimeter boards added a refined finish, and the wood door trims were upgraded to PVC and coated with Sherwin Williams primer and paint for enhanced durability and a seamless look.
The Result
The result is a structurally sound, beautifully finished 224 sq ft deck that provides a perfect area for relaxation and entertainment without the constant upkeep of traditional wood. The combination of the rich Trex Enhance Saddle color and the pristine new door trims completely revitalized the home’s exterior.
