The Inspection
For this Annandale residence, our team evaluated the site to design a 180 sq ft free-standing deck independent from the house. We focused on integrating the Trex RainEscape system, planning the joist layout and pitch for proper water diversion. We also confirmed soil stability for 24-inch footings and mapped drainage to keep the area beneath the deck dry and functional.
The Process
The construction began with 24-inch-deep footings featuring flared 18-inch bases for stability. We built a 20′ x 9′ free-standing frame using 2″x10″ beams and 2″x8″ joists to support both the deck and drainage system.
We then installed the Trex RainEscape system between the joists to create a waterproof barrier, followed by Trex Enhance decking with hidden fasteners for a clean finish. The structure was wrapped with PVC fascia, and a final drainage test ensured a dry, fully protected outdoor space.
The Result
The final result is a beautiful 180 square foot Trex deck that offers a premium, low-maintenance surface for relaxation while simultaneously creating a dry, protected zone underneath. The combination of Trex Enhance durability and the innovative RainEscape system provides a long-lasting solution that enhances the home’s versatility.
