The Inspection
For this deck replacement in West Springfield, our team conducted a detailed site analysis to transition from wood to a modern composite deck. We identified a key challenge with an existing brick walkway interfering with new supports and planned the placement of nine 24-inch-deep footings to meet code. Our layout ensured a perfectly level 192 sq ft surface while maintaining the backyard’s overall aesthetic.
The Process
The construction began with demolishing the old deck and removing sections of the brick walkway to prepare for the new foundation. We excavated nine 24-inch-deep footings with flared bases and poured concrete to create a solid, stable structure.
We then built a strong frame with 2”x8” joists spaced 12 inches on center for added rigidity. The surface was finished with Trex Enhance decking in ‘Coastal Bluff’ using hidden fasteners, and all edges were wrapped in PVC fascia for a clean, durable, and low-maintenance result.
The Result
The final result is a sophisticated and durable 192 square foot deck that perfectly complements the home’s exterior in West Springfield. The Coastal Bluff color provides a natural wood look without the need for constant staining or sealing, offering the homeowners a beautiful space for relaxation and entertainment.
