The Process
The project included removing the old vinyl railing, decking, joists, beams, posts, ledger, and stairs. A new pressure-treated ledger board was installed with proper flashing, and concrete footings were poured to support 6”x6” posts. A double 2”x10” beam and new joists (2”x8” or 2”x10”) were added, spaced 16” on center with galvanized hangers. The 170 sq. ft. deck was finished with 5/4”x6” pressure-treated pine boards and corrosion-resistant screws. New stair stringers, risers, and treads were also installed.
The Result
The project concluded with the installation of a robust railing system, featuring four posts and two horizontal Trex railing panels, along with a stair railing panel. The renovation not only improved the structural integrity of the deck but also enhanced its visual appeal, ensuring compliance with local building codes and providing a safe and durable outdoor space.
