The Inspection
The project commenced with a thorough assessment of the existing deck structure, identifying the need for a complete overhaul due to wear and structural concerns. The original wood railing, decking boards, joists, and stairs were deemed unsuitable for continued use, necessitating their removal to ensure safety and functionality.
The Process
The renovation included the complete removal of the existing deck components, with debris properly disposed of in a 30-yard dumpster. New wood joists were installed at 16” on center, supported by concrete-bearing walls, with added end joists and blocking for stability. Approximately 600 sq ft of new 2” x 6” PT pine decking was installed, including center stairs. The deck was finished with a 4” x 4” post railing system featuring Prowood railing and black pickets. A pergola measuring 15′ x 16′ was added on the right side, along with a 9′ x 6′ round cantilever on the left side.
The Result
The completed project showcases a modern and functional outdoor space, enhancing both aesthetics and usability. The new deck and pergola provide a durable and inviting area for relaxation and entertainment, reflecting high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout the renovation process.
