A Successful deck repair

The Inspection

For this Reston, VA project, we inspected a 4′ x 17′ section of the deck showing structural issues and evaluated the staircase that required a full rebuild. We determined that new, deeper footings and 6x6 posts were needed to ensure long-term stability in this high-traffic area.

The Process

The repair process began with the surgical removal of the damaged fascia, decking boards, and joists within the designated 68-square-foot middle area. Simultaneously, we demolished the old step structure to prepare for a modern replacement. Our team excavated new holes to set 6x6 footing posts in 80 lb high-strength concrete for a rock-solid foundation. We then built a new frame using 2” x 8” joists and installed 2” x 6” decking boards and risers for the steps. The entire 4' x 17' section was finished with premium Southern Pine #2, secured with specialized deck screws and wrapped with new fascia boards for a clean, integrated look.

The Result

The final result is a structurally sound deck that restores peace of mind for the homeowners in Reston. By replacing the compromised middle section and the aging steps, we have significantly extended the lifespan of the entire structure without the need for a full replacement. The new pressure-treated timber ensures durability against the elements for years to come.
