The Inspection
For this Fairfax, VA home, we inspected the worn deck entrance and identified safety concerns. We measured the 12′ x 6′ area and planned new support posts, developing a stronger, level, and secure entry platform.
The Process
The project began with the complete demolition of the old, unstable entrance deck. Once the area was cleared, we constructed a new heavy-duty frame using 2” x 8” pressure-treated pine joists and 2” x 10” beams for maximum structural integrity. For the surface, we installed premium 2” x 6” Southern Pine #2 decking boards, using 3” exterior self-starting star flat-head screws to ensure a flush, snag-free finish. To complete the safety features, we installed a Prowood railing system, featuring sturdy 4” x 4” posts and matching wood pickets. Every component was selected for its weather resistance and durability, creating a cohesive and traditional look that complements the home’s exterior.
The Result
The final result is a solid, safe, and aesthetically pleasing 72-square-foot deck entrance that provides peace of mind for the residents in Fairfax. The use of premium pressure-treated pine ensures the new structure is protected against decay and heavy foot traffic.
