The Inspection
For this property in Annandale, VA, our team began by clearing overgrown branch clusters and completely demolishing a 3' x 4'6'' existing concrete platform at the door entrance. We then excavated the original footprint and naturally compacted the subsoil to establish a stable, long-lasting foundation before integrating a custom change order to expand the outdoor living space.
The Process
To ensure superior water management and structural longevity, we constructed a densely compacted, multi-layer crushed stone base with a precise pitch to direct water away from the home's foundation. We expanded the patio by 2 feet to create a spacious 26 ft by 12 ft, 312-square-foot outdoor living area. Over this foundation, we installed premium Nicolock Stone Ridge pavers in Travertina using a classic Herringbone pattern with a continuous border. Finally, we integrated a reclaimed 4' x 4' paver sidewalk near the rear entrance and secured the surface with water-activated polymeric joint sand for a durable, weed-resistant finish.
The Result
The newly expanded 312-square-foot patio completely transforms the backyard into a highly functional, elegant space ready for entertaining. By utilizing premium Nicolock Stone Ridge pavers and robust drainage techniques, this Annandale home now boasts an outdoor living area built to withstand the elements.
