Enhancing Privacy with a Screened Deck Platform
The Inspection
A comprehensive site evaluation was conducted at the rear of the house, marking a 16’9” x 15′ area for excavation to establish a level base for a new 253 sq ft platform deck.
The Process
The project began with surface leveling and the addition of a protective paper base. Concrete deck blocks supported 2” x 6” joists, topped with pressure-treated Pine #2 wood for the deck flooring. A 10’ high awning roof was attached to the siding, with 6” x 6” posts set in footings. The roof structure featured 2” x 8” trusses and rafters, covered by tongue-and-groove boards, waterproofing, and matching architectural shingles. A K-style gutter system was installed for water management. For screening, charcoal mesh and a 36” x 80” screen door were added. Skylights were framed with treated wood and sealed with L-flashing for watertightness.
The Result
The project culminated in a high-quality, 253 sq ft platform deck and screened lean-to roof that seamlessly blends with the house. The open ceiling design showcases the sturdy trusses, while the dual skylights invite natural light into the space, creating an inviting outdoor retreat. This meticulously executed installation not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promises longevity and functionality.
