The Inspection
The project commenced with a thorough inspection of the deck, measuring 324 square feet. Areas requiring attention were identified, including the decking boards, railing, joists, beams, and posts. The condition of the surface was assessed to determine the necessary preparation steps for optimal staining.
The Process
The preparation phase spanned two days. On Day 01, all areas to be stained were cleared, followed by careful sanding to ensure a smooth surface. A power wash at 1500 psi effectively removed dirt and debris, and protective plastic sheeting was applied to safeguard adjacent siding and areas. After allowing the deck to dry for 24 hours, Day 02 involved the application of an oil-based semi-transparent deck stain using a sprayer and roller. Two coats of stain were applied to the entire surface, including the sub-structure, ensuring even coverage and durability.
The Result
Upon completion, the deck exhibited a refreshed appearance, enhancing its aesthetic appeal while providing protection against the elements. The staining process not only revitalized the wood but also extended the lifespan of the deck. The project was concluded with a 48-hour curing period, ensuring the stain set properly for long-lasting results. Overall, the meticulous approach to preparation and application resulted in a high-quality finish that meets industry standards.
