The Inspection
Our inspection of this Germantown home revealed major structural issues beneath the deck, including thirteen severely rotten posts and deteriorating 2x12 beams. These elements compromised the deck’s stability and safety, so we planned a full replacement using temporary supports to maintain integrity during the repair.
The Process
The restoration focused on restoring maximum structural strength while enhancing the deck's aesthetic durability. We began by installing provisional supports before carefully removing the nine 6x6 beams-supporting posts and the four 4x4 posts under the stair landing. Each was replaced with high-quality pressure-treated lumber to guarantee long-term stability. To ensure a seamless and weather-resistant finish, we installed new white vinyl post wraps on all thirteen locations. Furthermore, we replaced 56 linear feet of critical 2x12 beams at both the front and rear of the deck, reinforcing the entire framework to exceed local safety standards and provide a solid foundation for years to come.
The Result
This Germantown deck has been completely transformed from a structural liability into a safe and visually appealing outdoor space. By replacing the rotten wood with reinforced materials and adding protective vinyl wraps, we have significantly extended the lifespan of the structure and improved its overall curb appeal. The owners can now enjoy their outdoor living area with total peace of mind.
