The Inspection
The homeowners in Annandale, VA, needed to replace their aging second-story deck and the old wood platform connected to the stairs. We began by carefully demolishing the existing structures, hauling away all debris to ensure the property remained clean and safe. To guarantee long-lasting structural stability that exceeds local building codes, we excavated new footing holes for both the main deck and the new landing, pouring high-strength ready-mix concrete at a minimum depth of 36 inches for the primary foundation.
The Process
After reinforcing the structure with pressure-treated framing and protective joist tape, we built the 550-square-foot deck and custom 4x4 landing using TimberTech Prime+ Collection® in 'Sea Salt Grey.' The boards were installed with hidden fasteners for a clean, screw-free surface. We integrated a Trex Select Cocktail Railing with white rails, black aluminum pickets, and a TimberTech Driftwood top rail, perfect for outdoor entertaining. For safety and style, Trex Low-Voltage LED lighting was added to all stairs, while white PVC trim provided a crisp, polished finish to the entire project.
