The Inspection
The project involved a comprehensive assessment of an existing deck and the planning for a new structure totaling 492 sq. ft. The configuration included an open section measuring 20′ x 12′ and a covered section measuring 21′ x 12′. The evaluation focused on ensuring compliance with local building codes and the structural integrity necessary for the new installations.
The Process
The project began with the removal of the existing deck and excavation of 24-inch-deep footings per the plans. New 18-inch flared footings were poured with ready-mix concrete. The deck was built with Trex Transcend composite boards, wood fascia, and Trex white railings. A lean-to roof was framed with new trusses and tongue-and-groove interior finish, including skylights, K-style gutters, and downspouts for proper drainage.
The Result
The completed project showcases a modern deck and lean-to roof that enhance the functionality and aesthetic of the rear of the house. The open-ceiling design highlights the structural trusses, while the installation of screen mesh panels and an outdoor ceiling fan adds comfort and usability. Overall, the project reflects a successful transformation, providing a durable and visually appealing outdoor space.
