The Inspection
The project began with removing the existing stone across the 192 sq ft area to prepare a stable base. We set up batter boards to define the 16′ x 12′ layout and inspected the subsoil conditions. A safety check on the deck posts was also performed to ensure the structure remained secure before continuing.
The Process
To ensure long-term performance, we compacted the subsoil and installed professional wood framing with a strategic slope of 1 inch for every 4 feet to guarantee optimal water drainage. The foundation was reinforced with a layer of #57 pea gravel and structural wire mesh to prevent cracking and shifting over time. Once the preparation was complete, we poured the high-quality concrete and applied a professional broom finish to the surface, providing a slip-resistant texture that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The patio was then left to cure for 48 hours to achieve maximum structural integrity.
The Result
This transformation in Vienna, VA, provides a clean, durable, and low-maintenance 192-square-foot patio that perfectly complements the existing backyard layout. The integration of proper drainage and structural reinforcement ensures this space will serve the homeowners for years to come.
