The Inspection
A comprehensive assessment of the deck revealed the need for a full-scale renovation. The deck, measuring 241 square feet, required the removal of all existing components, including decking boards, top rails, joists, and stringers, due to wear and deterioration.
The Process
The restoration began with the careful dismantling of the old structure, ensuring all debris was disposed of in a 15-yard dumpster. New pressure-treated (PT) wood joists of 2" x 8" dimensions were installed using durable galvanized face mount hangers to create a robust sub-structure. The decking surface was then reconstructed with high-quality Duxxbak decking boards, each measuring 5/4" x 7 1/4", to cover the entire area. Additionally, the stairs were enhanced with 11 steps made from composite solid boards, and the top rails were replaced with 70 linear feet of the same premium material. The assembly utilized #9 x 3 in. Star Flat-head wood deck screws for secure and lasting construction.
The Result
The completed project boasts a fully restored deck that spans 241 square feet, featuring state-of-the-art materials for longevity and aesthetics. The new PT wood joist framework, coupled with the Duxxbak and composite surfaces, ensures a high-quality finish and enhanced durability. The meticulous installation process has revitalized the deck, providing a safe, sturdy, and visually appealing outdoor space for years to come.
