The Inspection
The deck had been neglected for a long time and was in a state of serious disrepair, with insufficient structural support to be safe. Poor maintenance and inadequate weight distribution had caused it to deteriorate significantly. If not addressed, the owner would face serious penalties from the HOA, and anyone who stepped onto the deck would be in danger. To prevent these issues, the client wanted to renovate the deck and make sure it was structurally sound.
The Process
At first, we had to carefully take apart the decking boards all the way down to the joists, which was quite tricky as they were located inside the house. After that, we dug two holes for the posts of the new wooden structure. Finally, we constructed the deck with the remaining components and firmly secured it in place. This presented a great challenge as the decking boards were fastened with nails, rather than screws, making the disassembly process difficult.
