The Inspection
The initial assessment revealed a 15' W x 8' L deck in need of renovation. The existing wooden decking boards (2" x 6") and interior joists (2" x 8") were due for replacement. The deck railing system, spanning 44 linear feet, also required updating, including the removal of guard posts and wood railing over 4 linear feet, as well as the existing rim and end joists.
The Process
The renovation process commenced with the careful dismantling of the old wooden structures. New pressure-treated (PT) wood joists (2" x 8") were installed with galvanized face mount hangers at a precise spacing of 12" on-center (O.C), ensuring a robust framework. Each joist was meticulously covered with Prowood joist tape for added protection. High-quality Trex Select decking boards were laid out, utilizing hidden clip deck screws (#9 x 3") for a seamless appearance. The deck's perimeter was accentuated with solid Trex Select boards for a polished finish. For the railing, new PT wood pine #2 rim and end joists were put in place, followed by the installation of Trex Brown Fascia board, enhancing the deck's aesthetic. New wood railing posts (4" x 4") were secured with through bolts, and Trex Enhance Brown railing kits were installed along the 44 linear feet.
The Result
The deck transformation was completed with precision, resulting in a durable and visually appealing outdoor space. The new Trex Select decking and Trex Enhance railing system provide a harmonious blend of quality and style. The deck now boasts a refreshed look with a robust structure that is poised to withstand the elements, ensuring longevity and ease of maintenance.
